On the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend 2008, the town of Parkersburg IA was devastated by a F5 tornado.  Shortly thereafter flood waters hit from Waterloo/Cedar Falls through Cedar Rapids continuing on to the Mississippi River.  Because of the recent tragedies in Iowa, we felt we needed to stand up and give back to the industry we love so much.

We are a small business from Minnesota, called Beauty Industry Solutions.  One of our partners, Julie Diedrich, is originally from Parkersburg IA, where her family still resides.
We have decided to put together a donation based hair show.  The show will be held at the Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center in Waterloo, IA on October 26, 2008.  This hair show is a benefit to raise money to help Cosmetologists and salons in Iowa that were affected by the recent floods and tornados.  The proceeds from this show will stay in Iowa.  We will be promoting this benefit in Iowa, as well as Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nebraska, South Dakota and Illinois.

This event will be open to Cosmetology students, educators, salon owners and licensed professionals.  A student team fantasy competition will take place as well as main stage performances and classroom education.  A vendor area will be provided for manufacturers and distributors to showcase features and benefits of their companies.  This will give them an opportunity to connect with salon owners, Cosmetologists and students.

Because hairdressers touch the lives of so many individuals, a portion of the show will be open to the public to allow them to support their local salons and industry professionals.

We are currently looking for licensed salon professionals within the state who would benefit from the funds raised during this event.

The interest shown in this event, so far, has been incredibly positive.  We are reaching out to industry and community partners such as, Cosmetologists and Barbers of Iowa, Cosmetology School Owners Association, Iowa State Board of Cosmetology, the Mayor/City Council of Waterloo and the Convention and Visitors Bureau. 

Iowa Cosmetologists have endured extreme natural disasters.  Many have lost homes, businesses and employment.  We want to stand up and be a voice for those affected by these tragedies.  We are asking the industry to give back in support of this cause.
